Crypto Market Update Monday October 12, 2026: Bitcoin at $83,480 (-0.35%)

This crypto market update opens the week with Bitcoin at $83,480. That is down 0.35% since the 00:00 UTC daily open. The weekend did the one thing Friday’s update asked of it. The $81,600 support held without the ETF bid. Price pushed to $84,352 overnight before easing back. Sentiment has jumped. The alternative.me Fear & Greed Index reads 69, which is Greed. It was 61 on Sunday. CoinMarketCap’s version sits at 57, Neutral. The two readings disagree by 12 points. That gap is itself a signal, and we come back to it below.

Crypto Market Update: Key Movers Today

Ethereum is the strongest of the majors this morning. ETH trades at $2,557, up 0.79% on the day. Its 24-hour gain is 2.21%. The 7-day picture is still poor. ETH is down 5.6% over the week, with a range of $2,406 to $2,725.

Solana sits at $111.51, up 0.14% today and 1.80% over 24 hours. XRP is at $1.403, down 0.48%. BNB is at $749.55, down 0.62%. Cardano is at $0.2513, down 0.36%. Stellar is the weakest on the board at $0.2007, down 1.13%.

The pattern is familiar. Overnight strength, then a fade into the European morning. Every major except ETH and SOL is red since the daily open while still green over 24 hours. That is a market that rallied on Sunday and has not yet decided whether to keep it.

Macro Context: Bank Earnings, CPI and a Gulf Flare-Up

The weekend brought two geopolitical headlines pulling in opposite directions. Houthi forces struck Riyadh airport, killing 13, and claimed hits on Aramco facilities. Saudi Arabia and Iran are reported to be in direct talks. Separately, President Trump announced an energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Oil fell on that news. It then reversed higher after President Zelenskyy said Moscow had already broken it. Brent trades at $105.56, up 0.80%. WTI is at $92.57.

Equities are shrugging it off. S&P 500 futures are up around 0.3% after Friday’s 0.6% gain to 7,811.54. European futures are up 0.6%. Asia was softer. MSCI’s regional index slipped 0.2%, dragged down by a 3% fall in South Korea after a long weekend. Japan is closed for a holiday. The full wrap is on Bloomberg.

Bonds remain the quiet pressure point. The 10-year Treasury yield closed Friday at 5.24%. It touched 5.35% earlier in the week, its highest level since 2002. The 30-year is at 5.60%. Gold has eased to $4,198, down 0.43%. Silver is at $60.98.

Two scheduled events dominate the week. US CPI lands midweek. The big six US banks report third-quarter earnings from Tuesday, with analysts expecting S&P 500 profits up roughly 25% year on year, per CNBC.

ETF Flows: The Streak Is Over

The number that matters most this morning is last week’s ETF tally. US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $681.1 million for the week ending October 10. That snapped a three-week inflow run. Wednesday alone saw $487.1 million leave. Thursday added another $244 million of outflows. Friday turned marginally positive at $21 million. It was the worst week since late June, according to The Block.

Ether ETFs are now on a nine-day outflow streak. Solana funds snapped a record 14-week inflow run. So the weekend rally happened with every ETF product leaking. That is why the two sentiment gauges disagree. Retail-weighted sentiment has turned greedy. Institutional flow has not.

What Does the Technical Picture Show?

Bitcoin’s 7-day range is $80,394 to $86,699. Price is down 2.7% over seven days. Today’s range so far is $83,316 to $84,352.

Friday’s update set one weekend test: hold $81,600 without ETF buyers. It passed with room to spare. The low since Friday’s close sits well above that line. Better still, the overnight high at $84,352 cleared Friday’s $83,529 high. That is a higher high on the bounce.

What it has not done is clear $85,598, Wednesday’s high. The $86,500 to $86,750 zone above that still caps the range. Until price closes above $85,600, this is a recovery inside a falling week, not a trend change.

The morning fade matters. Price is $870 off the overnight high. A daily close back below $83,300, the day’s low so far, would turn the higher high into a failed one. That is the first line to watch today.

Ethereum has reclaimed $2,500 and held it over the weekend. It remains below $2,725, the top of its weekly range. The $2,406 weekly low is still the floor that matters.

What Algorithmic Traders Are Watching

What Is the Market Outlook?

The near-term outlook is cautiously constructive. The weekend held support and printed a higher high. Sentiment has recovered. The flow data says the opposite. One of those will give way this week. CPI and bank earnings are the likely catalysts. Our post on why ETFs matter in the crypto market explains why the flow side tends to win.
