Crypto Market Update Tuesday October 13, 2026: Bitcoin at $83,572 (+2.10%)

Today’s crypto market update is a story of one candle. Bitcoin trades at $83,572, up 2.10% since the 00:00 UTC daily open. That number hides what happened overnight. Price fell to $81,034 in the Asian session as South Korean stocks sold off on AI-related concerns. It then recovered the entire drop. The 24-hour change is just 0.23%. Sentiment has cooled fast. The alternative.me Fear & Greed Index reads 57, down from 69 yesterday. CoinMarketCap’s version is 55, Neutral.
Crypto Market Update: Key Movers Today
Ethereum trades at $2,510, up 2.55% on the day. Its 24-hour change is -1.47%. The overnight low was $2,409. That is $3 above the $2,406 weekly low. ETH tested the floor to the dollar and bounced. It is down 7.0% over seven days.
Solana is at $106.91, up 1.10% today but down 3.72% over 24 hours. Its overnight low was $101.69. XRP is at $1.363, up 1.53% today and down 2.60% over 24 hours. BNB is at $740.13. Cardano is at $0.2342, down 6.47% over 24 hours. Stellar is at $0.1907, down 4.70% over 24 hours.
The split between today’s figures and the 24-hour figures tells you where the damage landed. Altcoins fell harder than Bitcoin overnight and have recovered less. Cardano and Stellar are still carrying most of the loss.
Macro Context: Bank Earnings Open With a JPMorgan Miss
Third-quarter earnings season opened this morning. JPMorgan reported net income of $15.31 billion, or $5.57 per share. That is a rare miss. Fixed income trading came in at $5.4 billion, roughly $550 million below estimates. Expenses grew faster than revenue. The shares fell, then turned higher in pre-market trade. Wells Fargo, Citigroup and Goldman Sachs also report today. Bank of America and Morgan Stanley follow on Wednesday. Live coverage is on CNBC.
These are the first bank results since the Federal Reserve raised rates in September. The financials sector is down about 4% since that hike. The S&P 500 is up more than 3% over the same period. The S&P closed Monday at 7,807, down 0.06%. The Russell 2000 is at 2,794, down 0.45%.
Asia was the weak spot. The Nikkei fell 1.82% to 67,778. South Korean stocks slid on concerns about AI spending. That was the trigger for the overnight crypto flush. The FTSE 100 is at 10,725, up 0.64%.
Bond yields eased. The 10-year Treasury yield fell more than 5 basis points to 5.19%. The 2-year is at 4.77%. The 30-year is at 5.56%. The move followed a drop in energy prices, per CNBC’s bond coverage. Brent crude is at $104.73, down 1.80%. WTI is at $92.05. Gold is at $4,209, up 0.45%. US CPI lands tomorrow.
ETF Flows: A Small Outflow, All From One Fund
Monday’s ETF print was a net outflow of $65.4 million. The whole figure came from BlackRock’s IBIT. Every other spot Bitcoin ETF recorded zero flow, according to Crypto Briefing. That is small next to last week’s $681 million weekly outflow. It is still the wrong direction. Ether ETFs lost $85.4 million, extending their outflow streak to ten days. Solana funds lost under $1 million.
In other news, Evernorth, the first XRP treasury company, has begun trading on Nasdaq under XRPN. XRP is down 2.60% over 24 hours. Any treasury bid has not shown up in the price yet. Ledger confirmed that devices sold through a third-party retailer contained a chip that transmitted wallet keys, with losses traced to around $93 million. Russia’s Sberbank received approval to trade crypto.
What Does the Technical Picture Show?
Bitcoin’s 7-day range is $80,394 to $85,598. Price is down 2.3% over seven days. Today’s range is $81,034 to $84,168.
Yesterday’s update set one line. A daily close below $83,316 would turn Sunday’s higher high into a failed one. Monday closed around $81,850. The higher high failed. Price then fell another $800 to $81,034 before buyers stepped in.
The recovery is the interesting part. Price is back above $83,500 within hours of the low. The overnight low sits inside the $81,000 to $81,600 zone that Friday’s update flagged as the weekend floor. It held again. That is three tests of the low $81,000s in six sessions. Each has bounced.
Resistance is unchanged. $84,168 is today’s high. $84,352 is Sunday’s high. $85,598 is last Wednesday’s high and the top of the 7-day range. The $86,500 to $86,750 zone sits above that. Bitcoin has now spent six sessions between $80,400 and $85,600. Our post on whipsaw trading covers what that does to trend systems.
Ethereum’s bounce off $2,409 is the cleanest signal on the board. The weekly low held to within $3. A daily close above $2,539, today’s high, would confirm it.
What Algorithmic Traders Are Watching
- Overnight flushes and session filters. The move to $81,034 happened during the Asian session on an equity sell-off. Strategies with a time filter that trades only US and European hours missed both the drop and the recovery. Whether that is good depends on the strategy.
- The close versus the wick. Yesterday’s higher high failed on a close. Today’s low has not been confirmed by one. Rules that act on completed candles avoided a short entry at $81,000 that would now be $2,500 offside.
- Range-bound regime. Six sessions inside a $5,200 range is a ranging market by most ADX definitions. Mean-reversion rules are getting paid. Breakout rules are paying.
- Altcoin beta. Cardano fell 6.5% over 24 hours while Bitcoin was flat. Strategies that size altcoin positions off Bitcoin volatility are under-sizing them this week.
- CPI tomorrow. The 10-year yield at 5.19% going into an inflation print is the macro event of the week. Time filters around the release are cheaper than stops.
What Is the Market Outlook?
The near-term outlook is neutral. The range has held on both sides for six sessions. The overnight flush found buyers in the same zone as every previous dip. The ETF flows remain negative but small. CPI tomorrow is the obvious catalyst for a range break in either direction.
Levels to watch:
- Support: $81,034 (today’s low), then $80,394 (weekly low). Below that, $80,000.
- Resistance: $84,168 (today’s high), then $84,352 (Sunday’s high) and $85,598 (range top). Above that, $86,500 to $86,750.
- Catalysts: CPI tomorrow. Bank earnings today and Wednesday. Tuesday’s ETF flow print after the US close.
Systematic traders got a reminder overnight. A level that holds three times is a level. A level that holds three times without a close above resistance is still a range.
