Crypto Market Update Friday October 9, 2026: Bitcoin at $83,145 (+1.70%)

Today’s crypto market update finds Bitcoin at $83,145, up 1.70% since the daily open. That recovers most of Thursday’s flush. The weekly low now sits at $80,394. It was printed overnight before a headline from Washington pulled the bid back. The Fear & Greed index reads 59, still in Greed, down from 64 yesterday. CoinMarketCap’s version sits at 57, in Neutral.
The bounce came from a political line, not a flow line. President Trump ruled out strikes on Iran before the midterms. Oil fell on the news. Bitcoin steadied with it. Meanwhile, the money that matters kept leaving. Spot Bitcoin ETFs lost another $244 million on Thursday.
Crypto Market Update: Key Movers Today
Ethereum trades at $2,503, up 1.13% on the day. That hides the damage. ETH is down 6.2% over seven days. Its weekly range is $2,406 to $2,740. CoinDesk reports that Thursday’s $1 billion liquidation flush hit ether longs at six times the rate of Bitcoin longs. The $2,500 line that yesterday’s update flagged broke and was reclaimed in the same session.
Solana sits at $110.57, up 0.87% today but down 1.60% over 24 hours. Solana developers are preparing a final upgrade to halve block times to 200 milliseconds. The market has not paid for it yet.
XRP trades at $1.391, up 0.79%. It was the only major token with an ETF bid on Thursday. US spot XRP funds took in $8.2 million. Every Bitcoin and Ether fund posted outflows.
Cardano leads the large caps at $0.2385, up 2.67% on the day. That is a bounce from a 3.60% drop over 24 hours. BNB trades at $742.96, up 0.93%. Stellar is at $0.1937, up 0.83%.
Macro Context: Iran Strike Risk Fades as Tech Stumbles
Brent crude is at $103.38, down 0.86%. WTI is at $91.29. The pullback followed Trump’s statement that there would be no Iran strikes before the midterms. Thursday’s update said any confirmation would send Brent higher and risk assets lower. The opposite headline landed. Oil remains above $100. That is the part the market has not solved.
US stocks had a bad Thursday. The S&P 500 closed at 7,765, down 0.47%. The Nasdaq 100 fell 1.4%, its worst day in seven weeks. A chipmaker index dropped 3.4%. Yahoo Finance attributes the selling to reports that OpenAI’s annualised revenue is around $20 billion lower than previously estimated. Friday futures are higher. S&P futures are up 0.4%. Nasdaq contracts are up 0.8%. Delta Air Lines is down almost 4% premarket. It missed earnings for the first time in two years and cut its outlook because of fuel costs. That is the oil price reaching the real economy.
Treasuries are steady at high levels. The 10-year yield is at 5.23%. The 30-year is at 5.63%. The 2-year is at 4.77%. All three are more than a full percentage point above a year ago. Yesterday’s 30-year auction did not move them. Gold is at $4,200, up 1.03%. Silver is at $60.73, up 2.82%. Both are rallying while Treasuries pay more than 5%. That is unusual. It says investors are hedging the currency, not the rate.
The FTSE 100 is at 10,540, up 0.95%. The Nikkei is flat at 69,031. The dollar trades at 158.28 yen. Sterling is at $1.321.
In crypto policy, Thailand opened the door to locally listed Bitcoin and Ether ETFs. The UK sanctioned three crypto exchanges over alleged Russia links. DWF Labs subsidiaries sued BitGo for $141 million over an alleged token lock-up breach.
What Does the Technical Picture Show?
Bitcoin’s 7-day range is now $80,394 to $86,999. Price is down 1.6% over seven days. Today’s range is $81,604 to $83,529.
Thursday’s session did what yesterday’s update feared. Price fell through $82,228. It fell through the $81,700 to $83,300 liquidation cluster. It fell through the Binance bids at $81,000. It stopped at $80,394. That is $394 above the $80,000 structural level. The buyers who were waiting there showed up.
The bounce has retraced the whole drop. Today’s high at $83,529 is within $8 of Thursday’s high. Price is back above $83,000. Yesterday’s update said a daily close above $83,200 would pause the slide. Price is above that line as this is written. It needs to stay there into the 00:00 UTC close.
Resistance above here is unchanged. $83,529 is today’s high. $85,598 is Wednesday’s high. The $86,500 to $86,750 zone caps anything beyond. A move through $85,600 would make the range break a failure.
Ethereum’s structure is weaker. Today’s range is $2,471 to $2,521. The $2,406 weekly low is the first real support. Below that is the September low. ETH has not reclaimed anything meaningful. It has stopped falling.
What Algorithmic Traders Are Watching
- The outflows have not stopped. Bitcoin ETFs lost $244.1 million on Thursday, according to Farside data. That follows Wednesday’s $484.9 million, the largest since June. Ether ETFs have now lost $641 million over eight straight sessions. Combined October outflows are approaching $1 billion. Flow-filtered strategies are still reading risk-off. The price bounce has not changed that input.
- The bounce was a headline, not a bid. Trump’s Iran statement moved oil, and oil moved Bitcoin. Nothing in the flow data supports the move. Momentum strategies that entered on the recovery are long against the money that is leaving.
- Weekend liquidity. The ETF bid is offline from Friday’s close until Monday. Thursday’s flush happened with full liquidity and still ran $1 billion in liquidations. Weekend order books are thinner. A move through $81,600 on a Saturday could travel further than the same move on a Tuesday.
- Funding and leverage reset. Thursday’s flush closed a large block of leveraged longs. Positioning is cleaner than it was on Wednesday. That cuts both ways. Fewer forced sellers below. Fewer forced buyers above. Our guide to liquidation cascades covers what to watch when positioning rebuilds.
- Sentiment is in the middle. Fear & Greed at 59 is not an extreme. Contrarian strategies that fade readings above 75 or below 25 are still idle. The index has dropped 12 points in a week without reaching anything tradeable.
What Is the Market Outlook?
The near-term outlook is neutral. Thursday’s flush found buyers above $80,000. Friday’s bounce recovered the loss. Neither event changes the flow picture. The ETFs are selling. The bounce has to survive a weekend without them.
Levels to watch:
- Support: $81,604 (today’s low), then $81,000 (Binance bids) and $80,394 (weekly low). Below that, $80,000.
- Resistance: $83,529 (today’s high), then $85,598 (Wednesday’s high). The $86,500 to $86,750 zone is the top of the range.
- Weekend: Whether $81,600 holds without the ETF bid. Any change to the Iran position. Funding rates rebuilding on the bounce. Friday’s ETF flow data lands after the US close.
Systematic traders spent Thursday executing rules written for a day like Thursday. Friday is a reminder that the recovery rule needs the same care as the breakdown rule.
