Crypto Market Update Thursday October 22, 2026: Bitcoin at $81,947 (-2.55%)

Thursday’s crypto market update finds Bitcoin at $81,947, down 2.55% since midnight UTC. Yesterday’s strong ETF demand has not prevented fresh selling. Bitcoin sits near today’s low, with Asian equities also under pressure.

Alternative.me’s sentiment index reads 68, or Greed, up from 63 yesterday. CoinMarketCap’s separate index reads 49, or Neutral. These gauges use different methodologies. Neither measures whether the next price move will rise or fall.

Crypto Market Update: Key Movers Today

The pullback extends beyond Bitcoin. Ethereum is testing the $2,400 area, and several large altcoins show larger daily declines.

AssetPriceChange since 00:00 UTCToday’s range so far
Bitcoin$81,947-2.55%$81,653–$84,377
Ethereum$2,405-2.78%$2,396–$2,482
Solana$104.71-2.11%$103.55–$107.50
XRP$1.331-2.53%$1.325–$1.370
Cardano$0.2176-3.42%$0.2143–$0.2269

Cardano shows the largest decline within this group. Solana has fallen less than Bitcoin, but remains negative. Relative strength during a sell-off still involves falling prices.

ETF Buying Strengthened in Wednesday’s Session

US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $524.8 million in net inflows on Wednesday 21 October. Tuesday’s total was $23.2 million, according to Farside Investors.

BlackRock’s IBIT contributed $235.0 million. Fidelity’s FBTC added $212.7 million. Together, those two funds accounted for most of Wednesday’s net demand.

The timing matters. These flows describe the previous US session. They cannot establish the direction of Thursday’s fund flows or guarantee support during today’s trading.

Macro Context: Asian Equities Fall as Brent Climbs

Wednesday’s US recovery has met a weaker Asian session. The Nikkei 225 closed near 62,908, down 2.65% in the retrieved snapshot. London’s FTSE 100 was 10,712, down 0.39%.

The S&P 500 reading was 7,757, up 0.58%. The Russell 2000 stood at 2,781, up 0.27%. Those US cash-index readings reflect Wednesday’s session; Thursday’s US cash market had not opened.

AP’s Wednesday market report linked Wall Street’s gains to stronger corporate earnings. That recovery does not yet establish a broad return of risk appetite today.

Energy, Metals and Bond Yields

Brent crude futures were $111.86, up 2.82%. Gold futures were $4,081, down 1.67%. Silver futures fell 2.78% to $55.83. These are separate market snapshots, rather than perfectly synchronised prices.

Higher oil prices can complicate the inflation outlook. Falling metals alongside weaker equities also challenge a simple safe-haven explanation for today’s moves.

Reuters reported Wednesday’s 10-year US Treasury yield at 5.111%. The 30-year yield was 5.412%. Both had eased during that session, although borrowing costs remained elevated.

The same report put October rate-hike odds at 14.9%, versus 33.2% a week earlier. Those are Wednesday’s reported probabilities, not a live Thursday reading.

What Does the Technical Picture Show?

Bitcoin’s immediate reference is $81,653, today’s low so far. Below that sits $80,684, the lowest price in the retrieved seven-day window.

Neither level guarantees support. A sustained break would matter more than a brief move below either price.

On the upside, $84,377 marks today’s high. The seven-day high is $84,898, just below the round-number $85,000 area. Bitcoin remains inside that wider weekly range despite today’s sharp decline.

Ethereum’s immediate reference is $2,396. Its seven-day range runs from $2,329 to $2,527. A recovery above today’s $2,482 high would improve the immediate picture, without proving a lasting reversal.

These levels come from observed ranges. They are watchpoints, rather than calculated moving averages or predictions.

What Is the Market Outlook for This Crypto Market Update?

Today’s tension is clear: substantial Wednesday ETF buying has met renewed Thursday selling. Sentiment remains relatively upbeat despite weaker prices.

A recovery through today’s range would ease immediate pressure. A sustained loss of $81,653 would put the seven-day low back in focus. Brent, bond yields and the US session provide context for either outcome.

Keep those scenarios separate. Strong fund inflows are useful evidence, but price still needs to confirm the recovery.
